Chapter History

The illustrious Omicron Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, located in Bloomington, Illinois, was chartered in March of 1984 by 17 trailblazers who enthusiastically embraced the vision of sincerely  “serving all mankind.”  These 17 Charter Members were inspired by two leaders who were a moving force-Shirley Gordon and Sue Satisfield.  These ladies believed in the importance of sisterhood, scholarship and service. The Charter Members passionately pursued the charter of the Omicron Delta Omega Chapter as they realized a void in the Bloomington-Normal community.  Once chartered, the Chapter’s presence served as a beacon of hope, a source of strength and a pillar of persistence.  In March of 2024, Omicron Delta Omega will celebrate 40 years of its chartering and “exemplary service” to the Bloomington/Normal community.  Over the 40 year-history, Omicron Delta Omega Chapter has fervently addressed the needs of women and girls through scholarships, women’s forums, financial acumen updates and fashion shows. The chapter’s unparalleled service to the Bloomington-Normal community is indicative of the chapter’s impactful, steadfast and immovable commitment towards “Service to All Mankind” by exemplifying excellence through sustainable service.” As Omicron Delta Omega Chapter reflects upon its rich history, the chapter boldly embraces the sorority’s international programs to ensure the longevity and perpetuity of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.
